Rev Rick’s Ramblings May 2016

Blessed to be a blessing.

The new Covenant Bible Study Group is finding a way to strengthen their faith by studying the scriptures and sharing together in class. As we explore God’s action creating covenant with the world, with God’s people and with us, we hear God promising to bless us that we may be a blessing. We have the special opportunity to be a blessing for our community. Through our participation with WAIM, the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry, we join with congregations and people of faith throughout our community and the surrounding area to improve the lives of people who might otherwise be forgotten. This month we hold WAIM Sunday on May 15. This gives us the opportunity to celebrate the work of WAIM and to have a special collection to support this vital work. As a special feature the WAIM truck will be here so we are asking members to bring their donations of clothing, furniture or other items to be sent on to WAIM. The following Saturday, May 21, is our day to volunteer at WAIM. We come to church to be blessed through the strengthening of our faith. From that foundation we seek to be a blessing for others. Through it all, we do it together, and that is wonderful!

Rev. Rick’s Ramblings Jan 2016

The New Year comes in and while we may not be optimistic, we may still find hope. Often times we hope that our lives will be better and at least, we can be better. As you enter 2016 make a commitment to have a better faith life. Here are some suggestions for techniques to accomplish that. Make an effort to attend worship more frequently in 2016. Worship in the community can have all sorts of positive influences on your life. Find a program to read scripture more regularly. I especially recommend the Gospels to increase your understanding of who this Jesus character is that we make such a big deal about. Set aside a specific time in your day for prayer and/or meditation. Create a worshipful space to do this. Prayer and meditation have been shown to improve physical and mental wellness in addition to strengthening faith. Choose an area of service to commit your time and energy to. There are several that the church does and many more in the community that allow us to impact the world for God.

Be realistic. Don’t try to accomplish all of these. But pick one to start. And if you can do it with someone, another church member, a family member or friend, you are more likely to stick with it.
